EuroMed DJ/ VJ contest & Party series

by dr. Amir A. Abdi

Publication of the Interkulti Association for the Promotion of Intercultural Dialogue 2010

Aims of project:

  • Foster creativity in the Euro Med region, by providing incentives for talented creators to engage in intercultural dialogue through music and vision, culminating in the creation of fusion remixes which combine elements from the whole region, and that are capable of speaking to all.
  • Develop closer working ties between cultural operators and creators in the Euro Med region
  • Raising awareness to the musical heritage of the Euro Med region, and to the commonalities and/or differences in daily life and culture in the region.

Project consists of 2 phases:

Phase 1. Euro Med Annual Dj and VJ contest

The main aim of the contest is finding the best Dj's and Vj's in the EuroMed region, who combine elements of EuroMed culture into their works.

Applicants will have to produce individual shorter mixed tracks, as well as longer sets, combining music (for Dj's) or images (for Vj's) inspired by daily life / folk art / culture from more than one country in the Euro Med region.

Phase 2. EuroMed Parties with the participation of the winners

Winners of the contest and their works will then be exposed to the public in the whole region in the framework of the Euro Med Party series, to be held across the region. The party series will also include live concerts, dance performances and art/photo exhibitions

Once the jury has selected the best works and best combinations, all partners collaborate in creating the “show”: The Euro Med Party Series

Each partner will be expected to hold such a party, i.e., present the winners and their works in a “real time Euro Med party”
