Background

The 28th Cabueñes International Youth Meeting, which is taking place in Gijon since its first Edition, and the International Youth Year proclaimed by the United Nations (from 12^th August 2010 to 11^th August 2011) are perfect to take the opportunity to develop a Meeting about the Youth role at Alliance of Civilizations (AoC). Through the knowledge and experience from different experts, discussions will be promoted and the conclusions resulted will be useful to spread youth worries and opinions to the different national and international organizations.

The Alliance of Civilizations is an initiative launched in 2005 which main aim is to improve the comprehension and cooperation between different cultures and religions in a respectfully and communicative way while countering the forces that contribute to extremism.

Nowadays, the tendency to the globalization makes different cultures and religions to live closer and closer. The youth, who have taken part in the last greatest social and politic changes, are one of the fundamental basis of the AoC, in order to understand the impact of this diversity on our daily life as well as politics taken in this subject.

Taking everything into account, the AoC believes that Youth are the most interested stakeholder in reach an even more free society. Besides, they are an important source of energy and ideas that can promote respect, comprehension and communication between people from different cultures.

In sum, youth constitute the true basis of the sustainability and impact of the Alliance’s work.

Aim and objectives

• Disseminate the AoC’s actions and interests.

• Promote the knowledge through the experience and the dialogue.

• Promote the discussion in a respectfully way.

• Draw up a document of conclusions to be used in different AoC’s forums.

Participant profile

The Meeting will hold 120 young people from all over the world, from 18 to 35 years old.

Selection Procedure

Inscription rate: 25€ including educational activities, complementary activities (concerts, parties, etc.) and meals in Laboral City of Culture.

There are 47 granted vacancies which include acommodation. Twenty-eight of them are for associated young people (18-35 years old) and nineteen for not-associated young people. These vacancies will be allocated in registration order.

The rest of the available vacancies (73) which don’t include accommodation, will be for Young people from Gijon or for other people under or over 35 years old who will pay their own chosen accommodation in Gijon.

Practical Information

Date and venue of the seminar: in Gijón (Asturias, España), from 9th to 11th September. Laboral Ciudad de La Cultura.

Travel: The cost of the travel should be covered by each participant or the organization they represent.

 Any visa costs will be covered by the participants.

Alliance of Civilizations Seminar languages: Spanish and English. Simultaneous interpretation provided.
